History

WES PAUL

Wes Paul began playing guitar after buying an acoustic guitar from Gerry Allan's record shop in Lodge Lane, Liverpool in 1955, his main influences being Hank Williams and Elvis Presley. Shortly after he formed a skiffle group and performed in his school band (Prince's Park). He made money busking outside pubs and playing skiffle on the street corner. In the early 60s he played with several bands on the local pub and club scene and was resident singer at The Monroe, Duke Street and Jokers Club, Edge Lane. Later he spent a year in London playing the local pub and club scene including The 2 I's in Old Compton Street and The 59 Club in Hackney Wick.

Wes was invited by Kingsize Taylor to stage manage the Sounds of the Sixties Cavern Showcase jam session at The Cavern and the first session was held on Sunday 13th November 2005. Besides stage managing and compering several large charity shows for Kingsize and Marga Taylor, Wes organised and appeared in 77 Cavern Showcases.

Wes now plays rhythm guitar and is the lead singer of The Wes Paul Band.

REBECCA PAUL

Rebecca is the youngest member of the group at 25, and has been playing in bands in Manchester since the age of 13. She plays guitar, bass and drums, and is currently learning keyboards and violin.

She first appeared as a guest with Wes Paul and Nashville on 8th October 2006. It was the first time she had attended the Cavern Showcase, and her dream was to play on the Cavern. Rebecca became involved shortly after in publicising the Showcase events, that is distributing flyers throughout Liverpool during the daytime of the shows. She subsequently became the Publicity Manager and began work on developing the Cavern Showcase website.

In February 2007, Wes asked her to become the bass player in the line up of his new band.

Rebecca Paul

We are nowlooking for a replacement for Rebecca as she is concentrating on other commitments. We are looking for a female bass guitarist [to preserve the gender mix of the band] who loves Rock and Roll, Blues and Country as well as 60s music and can quickly get up to speed on our type of music.

PAUL GALVIN

Paul Galvin has been a lead guitarist in Liverpool since the early 60s, playing in many bands including The Plassy Bags and Nashville (a Liverpool country Americana group), who he played with for over ten years. It was whilst playing for Nashville that Paul and Wes first became friends. Wes appeared with Nashville on many local gigs as a guest singer and stood in for Les Evans the lead singer when he was unwell. Wes asked Les Evans and the band to support him as the Cavern Showcase house band.

In January 2007, Wes asked Paul to become the lead guitarist for the new line up - The Wes Paul Band.

HARRY STARR

They met their drummer Harry Starr at a jam night at Todmorden Conservative Club in 2007. Harry has been playing in bands in West Yorkshire since the sixties and is a highly experienced and professional drummer. It wasn't long before he agreed to join the band full time.

The band also have several other drummers they use as stand-ins, when Harry goes away on his many holidays, including Arty Davies, a renowned drummer from Liverpool and one of the Cavern house drummers.

Harry StarrUnfortunately Harry has now decided to 'call it a day' and is substituted with one of database of Drummers from around our region. Thanks Harry for some great [tight] backing. We wish you all the very best wishes in your future projects.
